Chocolate Chip Protein Angel Food Cake
Adapted from the Dashing Dish
Ingredients
- 7 egg whites at room temperature
- 1/2 scoop of protein powder (we used Trutein Cinnabun)
- 1 tsp cream of tartar (do not leave out, this will help your egg whites form stiff peaks!)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Stevia to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350, and spray an 8 inch round cake pan with non-stick spray. In a large mixing bowl combine egg whites, stevia, vanilla extract, and cream of tartar. Beat with electronic mixer until stiff peaks are formed. Do not over mix as your egg whites will deflate! As soon as your egg whites have formed stiff peaks, stop mixing, and SLOWLY FOLD in the protein powder and chocolate chips. Make sure you take your time and slowly add these items or else your egg whites will deflate and they will not rise again. Once all ingredients are mixed together, spoon batter into pan and bake for 20 minutes or until top is golden brown. Serve with whipped cream, more chocolate chips, chocolate sauce or just eat plain!
